How to: Build a personal style that stands out

As the whole world now revolves around social media, many people are becoming more and more conscious about the way they look and how they present themselves inside and outside social media. Been receiving a lot of questions from people who are kinda' lost or don't have a clue what clothes/style will perfectly suits them, though these are the types of question I usually received in the blogging conferences I've attended,  sometimes it's hard to give answers to these questions especially if you're still on the stage of finding what your personal style is.

Finding your personal style involves a lot of learning, by the means of learning is making a lot of mistakes and struggles with it. Like celebrities, we've all witnessed their struggle in finding their personal style (from red carpets, to paparazzi shots, gala etc), their mistakes are public. Ours are too! Because we post our outfits on the internet. Maybe not as many people are looking at your posts, but it can still be cringe worthy.

So, how are you going to build a personal style that's unique and stands out from the rest of the crowd?. Here's some really helpful tips that are based on my experiences being a personal style blogger.

Always Be Aware

Being aware with the trends and the fashion scene is really important if you want to build a strong personal style. Always stay updated with the latest collection of your favorite designers, what people in the streets are wearing, fashion websites that delivers the latest lookbooks, collections, editorials of fashion magazines. Try to think of a unique way on how are you going to give it a new flavor or something fresh to it.

Think about some things..

Think about your age, your occupation, location, environment and your lifestyle. Clothing should always be age-appropriate, it's OK if you want to look youthful in your outfit--just make sure your outfits suits your stage of life.

Experiment

Try experimenting with some pieces in your wardrobe to create a unique personal style. Experiment with fabrics, textures, layering, accessories..Everything!. But always remember to keep the whole look tasteful, clean and polished.

Know what clothing pieces perfectly flatters your body type

When buying clothes, always keep in mind that the clothes you're wearing should always complements your body type and also some facial features. Wear the clothes..Don't let the clothes wear you. If you're into the whole oversize thing, make sure you feel comfortable wearing it, coz' it will reflect in your face if you're not comfortable in your outfit and it will damage the whole look. Tailoring is also very important in this process.

Based it on your mood

I always based everything on my mood. If you're on a good mood, you'll end up looking happy and satisfied with what you've come up in your two or three hours of planning on what you're going to wear.

Don't always follow trends

They're trends because everyone is wearing them and we don't want that to happen especially if you're on the stage of building a unique personal style. Look in the past trends and try adding a modern style or approach to it. I 100% guarantee you by doing this, can make you a trendsetter.

Have fun! it's fashion|! Don't be afraid.

I'm proud to say that I have the most fabulous friend lists on Facebook. They surely know how to set the trends and have fun in fashion. Those are things I admire people for, being unafraid with what  people will/might think. Because fashion should be fun and people who take fashion seriously are idiots.

  6. Hi Michael. How are you ?
Thanks for the motivating comments on my blog.
I thought I hop by your blog to do the same. And i saw this cool article.

You made a very good point with saying that , to build your style you have to experiment. That's the phase I'm in now. i EXPERIMENT different styles that i like to see ... I had a fashion don't a few days ago. That's the proof that even us bloggers can make style mistakes once in a while.

Great article man. loved reading it :-)

In my opinion to build a personal "different" style you should experiment...I believe it is the most important part.

  13. Love this article. It is so on point! I also think that it is important to research one's style icons and current innovators and sort of just edit which looks you are comfy with and which ones you feel you can go without. Style is so ever-changing after all. Something you may not like before can totally work for you in the near future. Good read! xx
